FURNITURE FETISH \\ The Sculptural Wall Piece

Statement Wall Structures...

Collection “Cirkel” Wall lights 01/02 by Daphna Laurens  Photography Mike Roelofs

This FURNITURE FEATURE post focuses on statement wall pieces which channel a functional piece of artwork \\

I mentioned in last FURNITURE FETISH post that another Daphna Laurens piece was coming up - well this is it. I just had to do a four image feature on this one to capture the beauty of its transition from day to night. I spoke in the last post about their industrial design blurring the boundaries between furniture and artwork and this piece is the epitome of just that, " They wanted to create a lamp that during the day was an art-piece more than a wall light and at night is a lamp" \\

Bauhaus is distinctly their main inspiration source and more specifically the works of Laszlo Moholy Nagy \ Jewish-Hungarian-American, July 20, 1895 – November 24, 1946 \ Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus successors would smile in their graves at this piece of work.

Some of my favorite works by Laszlo Moholy Nagy, left to right \\  Composition A XXI. 1925 \\   Construction. 1923 litograph © Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York; VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn \\  A II, 1924. Oil on canvas, 45 5/8 x 53 5/8 inches (115.8 x 136.5 cm). Solomon R.
